Who We Are
LA Academy was set up by Jeremy Burridge in October 2022. Having been one of the founders of LittleAqua way back in 2012, Jeremy wanted to return to his roots. Having learnt so much from his previous journey, LA Academy has now opened its doors across 8 exclusive venues in his hometown of Cambridgeshire and Huntingdonshire. Our aim is to provide something different, not just a passion, but to change lives by teaching children to swim.
We are backed by a wonderful, diverse and extraordinary team. They are fully trained in the LA Academy method, and all of our teachers share the same passion and ethos for making swimming fun. OUR PROCESS
Our Teaching Method
Our way of teaching has been carefully crafted to give every swimmer a unique experience. Our hands on and play based approach will not only teach them how to swim but also build their character.
LA Academy’s learn to swim scheme has been designed to teach all classes in either 1:1 or 2:1 ratio, with 100% attention and time given to the students’ progression and enjoyment. We follow our own tailored award scheme and each student receives a colourful, engaging progression book in order to follow their own journey.
The starting point being confidence, this underpins our whole award scheme. Next they will learn to float unaided on their front and back before the strokes are taught. Why? Because having the correct body position is fundamental in learning to swim the correct technique of each stroke.
Every parent wants their children to be safe in the water. Our method and small class sizes are guaranteed to bring about fast results – unlocking your child’s potential and giving them the platform to learn essential life skills, in and out of the water.
The scheme of work is designed so each swimmer can progress at their own pace and see their own achievements. Our specially trained instructors assess their progress each week and provide you with individual feedback at the end of every lesson. Each level has its own certificates to work towards and once a swimmer is ready to move up, they receive a badge for all their efforts.
Parents will have their own online portal. We use this to regularly communicate with parents on everything that is happening at LA Academy. Time in the water practicing and perfecting skills is invaluable, so we also have a catch-up feature to rebook sessions you cannot attend.
Lessons & Locations
All of our lessons at LA Academy are personal, whether it’s our 1-2-1 or 2-2-1 sessions. Our 2-2-1 and 1-2-1 sessions are suitable for swimmers over the age of 2.5 years. For our younger swimmers we offer Parent and Child sessions for swimmers over the age of 12 weeks. Our sessions run for 42 weeks of the year, ensuring your children’s swim skills remain sharp! Our term dates are inline with our local skills and we close Summer, Easter and Christmas.
We offer an online catch up class system which has been created to accommodate busy schedules so no lesson, time or money is wasted.
We have a variety of locations across Cambridgeshire & Huntingdonshire and have attached some more information about each individual lesson type down below;
Private
We offer private 1-2-1 lessons at all of our venues.
Semi Private
We offer semi private 2-2-1 lessons at all of our venues. Our 2-2-1 pairings can be sibling pairings, friend pairings or we can partner your swimmer up with a swimming friend of a similar age and similar ability.
Club Sessions
We offer club sessions under our swimming club (CASC – Cambridge Academy Swim Club.) Our club sessions are group sessions focused on developing their strokes and stamina whilst keeping the sessions fun and engaging.
Each of these sessions are an hour long, and these can be done once or twice a week.
SEN & Disability
We offer private 1-2-1 SEN sessions at all of our venues. These are offered at a reduced rate.
Each of these sessions are 30 minutes long, once a week.
